About Winnipeg Art Gallery

Canada’s oldest civic art gallery established in 1912, The Winnipeg Art Gallery, has over 25,000 works of art ranging from 15th century European paintings to 21st century American multi-media art. Today, WAG is Canada’s sixth largest gallery.

 

What to Do at Winnipeg Art Gallery?

Winnipeg Art Gallery is a great visit for an art lover with ever-changing permanent and travelling exhibits. They have an extensive collection of exhibits – popular among them are the Inuit Art, Olympus exhibit featuring Greek and Roman sculptures, classical antiquities, Group of seven paintings.

The WAG plays a vital role in the community—enriching, inspiring, and engaging people with the world of art. As Canada’s oldest civic art museum, the WAG presents its collections and programs to local, national, and international audiences, maintaining the highest standards in current museum practices.

WAG also conducts tours, programming, educational programs for schools, studio classes and provides facility rentals for weddings, concerts, conferences etc.

In March 2021, WAG opened the largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art in a 18500-square foot space called the Qaumajuq. WAG-Qaumajuq holds in trust close to 14,000 pieces of Inuit art, including carvings, drawing, prints, textiles, and new media. – Watch the virtual opening ceremony here.

Hours: Open throughout the year. Closed on Mondays, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day.

There is metered parking in front of the Gallery as well as on St. Mary Avenue and Colony Street. Parking is also available at ImPark (the Bay parkade) just across the street and in parking lots on Good Street behind the Abbott Clinic.
