Environment Canada Issues Severe Thunderstorm Watch For Areas From KW Region Up to Quebec City

According to the warning, conditions are ripe for intense thunderstorms, potentially resulting in strong wind gusts, damaging hail, and significant rain beginning in late morning and moving southeast until evening.

The chief risks include hail the size of nickels, wind speeds reaching up to 90 km/h, and rainfall nearing 40 mm.

This system of thunderstorms, intensifying as they move southeast, primarily poses a threat due to hail and is anticipated to clear the region by late afternoon. Such hail can cause substantial property damage, from shattered windows to dented vehicles, and can inflict severe injuries. Additionally, strong winds might cause havoc, from uprooting tree branches to flipping large vehicles.

Emergency Management Ontario stresses that with such storm conditions, water activities become perilous, and lightning proximity is a hazard. They advise residents to seek immediate shelter when confronted with ominous weather.
