Motorists travelling between Edmonton and Strathcona County should prepare for delays as a massive EO (ethylene oxide) Reactor is transported from south Edmonton to the Shell Scotford Complex in Fort Saskatchewan.
The move will begin on the night of February 11 and continue until February 13.
The reactor, used in oil refining, measures 9.8 meters in width, 9.3 meters in height, and 141 meters in length. It weighs approximately 1,766,400 kilograms and will be carried on trailers with 832 wheels. Due to its size and weight, the transport will proceed at a maximum speed of 30 km/h.
The load will travel with escort vehicles and may move against traffic flow at times, requiring temporary lane closures.
Route
The load will leave Dacro Industries Inc. in south Edmonton using the following route:
Day 1 Feb. 11 (Night Move)
- exit from 9325 51 Avenue, Edmonton
- 51 Avenue eastbound
- 75 Street southbound
- Whitemud eastbound counterflow
- Highway 216 southbound counterflow (stage at Highway 216 bypass)
Day 2 Feb. 12 (Night Move)
- Highway 216 southbound counterflow
- Highway 14 eastbound
- Highway 834 northbound closure
- Highway 15 westbound closure (park at Highway 15 wide spot by Lamont)
Day 3 Feb. 13 (Day Move)
- Highway 15 westbound
- Highway 15 westbound counterflow for 1.4 km
- Range Road 214 North
- exit west into site (Shell Scotford Complex)
Motorists in the region are advised to expect significant delays and to exercise patience and caution.Flag personnel and pilot vehicles will be in place to manage traffic, with police escorts present at certain points.
