Alberta is rolling out a new Energy Rebate that will send $100 to nearly 3.4 million eligible residents starting July 1, 2026.

The province says the rebate is meant to return money collected during recent months of higher gas prices directly to Albertans. Unlike fuel tax relief, which depends on savings showing up at the pump, this payment will go straight to eligible residents and can be used for groceries, rent, bills, fuel or other household costs.
Premier Danielle Smith said higher oil prices do not only affect drivers. They can also push up everyday expenses such as food, utilities and other basics. The rebate, she said, gives families more choice in how they use the support.
To qualify, Albertans must be 18 or older, have filed a 2025 tax return and have a household income of $225,000 or less. A household means either one person, or two people who are married or in a common-law relationship.
Two-adult eligible households can receive $200. Other adults living at the same address, such as roommates, adult children or other family members, are treated as separate households and must apply on their own.
The online application portal opens July 1 and closes Sept. 30, 2026. Some Albertans will not need to apply. People receiving the Alberta Seniors Benefit, AISH, ADAP or Income Support will be automatically enrolled.
The province says the rebate offers more than 50 per cent in additional average savings compared with projected fuel tax relief over the next three months. Alberta also notes its average fuel price was 156.3 cents per litre as of June 15, below the Canadian average of 171.2 cents.
The rebate is not taxable and does not need to be reported to the Canada Revenue Agency.
