Increased Minimum Wages in Manitoba from October 1

imageManitoba is increasing the minimum wage on Oct. 1.

The minimum wages will increase by 30 cents per hour, raising the current minimum wage to $11.65 from $11.35. This adjustment is based on Manitoba’s 2018 inflation rate of 2.5 per cent and rounding up to the nearest five cents.

Growth, Enterprise and Trade Minister Blaine Pedersen announced that the increase of 30 cents per hour will ensure that Manitoba remains competitive with other provinces.

“We are providing predictable and sustainable increases to Manitoba’s minimum wage, which achieves the right balance benefitting both employees and employers,” said Pedersen. “Based on Manitoba’s Consumer Price Index for 2018, the minimum wage increase will help our economy continue to attract new investment and participation in the workforce.”

The minimum wages across Canada as of January 2019 are (ref: Retail Council of Canada):

  • Alberta: $15.00
  • British Columbia: $12.65 (The minimum wage will rise to $13.85 on June 1st, 2019)
  • Manitoba: $11.35
  • New Brunswick: $11.25
  • Newfoundland & Labrador: $11.15
  • Northwest Territories: $13.46
  • Nova Scotia: $11.00 ( On April 1, 2019, the wages will increase to $11.55 per hour for experienced employees and $11.05 per hour to inexperienced employees)
  • Nunavut: $13.00
  • Ontario: $14.00
  • Prince Edward Island: $11.55
  • Quebec: $12.00
  • Saskatchewan: $11.06
  • Yukon: $11.51
