There was a notable lack of outdoor rinks in the city as artificial rinks like the one at Village East Park were removed a few years back.

For this winter season, the city of Pickering is setting up 3 new skating artificial rinks at Rick Hull Memorial Park, Forestbrook Park and Claremont Memorial Park.

While the natural ice rinks at Rick Hull Memorial Park and Forestbrook Park are of size 60 feet x 100 feet, the Claremont Memorial Park rink will be full size (~200 x 85 feet).

The city was planning to open the rinks sometime this week (the week of January 10, 2022).

The city through a social media post said Forestbrook Park Rink was damaged after some people used the rink without permission before it was completely ready for public skating.

The city said, “Unfortunately, there was damage done to the rink and majority of the water was drained out. These damages will significantly delay the opening of the rink. Staff will work on repairing the liner and building up the ice again.”
