A new $1 circulation coin, unveiled at BC Place in Vancouver, officially entered circulation on May 14. It celebrates a historic tournament that, for the first time, will be shared by three host countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Designed by Canadian artist Glen Green, the coin leans heavily into symbolism. On one side, a mosaic maple leaf rendered in red and orange tones reflects the coming together of fans. The official tournament emblem sits to the left, while a moving soccer ball appears on the right, alongside the names “Toronto” and “Vancouver,” the two Canadian host cities. The bilingual title of the tournament frames the design.

The obverse shows the effigy of King Charles III, created by artist Steven Rosati.

The Mint is releasing three million of these coins, including two million colourized versions. They’ll gradually appear through banks and everyday transactions.

For collectors, there are additional options: a five-coin set that includes themed 25-cent pieces, as well as special wrapped rolls and boxed sets. Per the news release, no two collector sets are identical, thanks to varied packaging designs using FIFA’s colour palette.
