Canada’s Best Diversity Employers recognizes Canadian employers that have outstanding diversity and inclusion programs in the workplace. The competition acknowledges employers who have created inclusive programs for employees belonging to various groups such as women, visible minorities, persons with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, and LGBT individuals.

Mediacorp Canada Inc. says the employers recognized in this year’s list have improved their programs by reaching out to community organizations that have first-hand knowledge of the needs and challenges of diverse populations.

BASF Canada, CN, Niagara Health, Manitoba Hydro, Scotiabank, and EY are all actively working to ensure their workplaces are inclusive and diverse.

Mediacorp Canada Inc. says BASF Canada in Mississauga solicits employee feedback through various methods, such as pulse checks and bi-annual anonymous surveys, to create a framework for inclusive behaviour, psychologically safe workspaces, and accountability for non-inclusive behaviour.

Meanwhile, CN in Montreal has launched a voluntary self-identification questionnaire called “Count Yourself In” to expand diversity beyond the four designated groups. The railway company also maintains diversity dashboards to track progress on metrics such as hiring, representation, exit and promotion rates.

Niagara Health in St. Catharines has incorporated diversity and inclusion accountability measures in the development goals of its leadership team, including the president and executive in charge of human resources.

Manitoba Hydro has created pre-placement programs for Indigenous candidates to gain the academic prerequisites for an apprenticeship, on-the-job training, and pay. Scotiabank has set ambitious commitments for 2025 to double the current representation of Indigenous employees and increase the representation of persons with disabilities by 20% across all levels of the organization.

EY offers a three-year leadership program to help high-potential candidates from diverse backgrounds advance into leadership roles and a reserve mentorship program to help Black professionals build relationships with firm leadership and understand their successes, challenges, and barriers.
