University of Alberta Students Name a Plesiosaur, Dr. Deeno Hinshaw

Our Public Health Officers are the face of  Canada’s fight against COVID-19 and they are all being honoured in various ways across the country. Recently, the famous Vancouver based shoe designer, John Fluevog announced that he will be releasing a limited-edition ‘The Dr. Henry’ shoe inspired by British Columbia’s chief provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry.

U of A Palaeontological Society held a contest to name 30-foot long cast of a plesiosaur, a marine reptile from the Cretaceous Period, hanging in the CCIS building. 

The contest was held in early April and by the time the contest closed on April 10th, more than 500 students voted for the entry, “Dr. Deeno Hinshaw” – the paying homage Alberta’s chief medical officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw.
