Ikea has introduced plant-based meatballs – plant ball – in its restaurants and food markets across Canada.
Ikea says the plant-based version made with pea protein, oats, potatoes, onion, and apples has the same taste and texture as the traditional meatball.
The new plant ball has only 4 per cent of the climate footprint of the original version which was developed in 1985 and it is available in frozen bags for only $6.99 in Swedish Food Market nationwide. The plant ball dish is also available for the same price at IKEA Restaurants across the country and is classically served with mashed potatoes, broccoli, lingonberries and cream sauce.
Ikea’s food markets and restaurants also feature veggie balls, chicken meatballs and salmon balls.
Ikea serves more than 1.375 million meatball plates every year across Canada.
