The announcement came today when Mayor John Tory proclaimed the month of May as Museum Month in Toronto.

The city of Toronto owns and operates 10 historic sites across Toronto – Colborne Lodge, Fort York National Historic Site, Gibson House Museum, Mackenzie House, Market Gallery, Montgomery’s Inn, Scarborough Museum, Spadina Museum, Todmorden Mills and Zion Schoolhouse – and the public can visit all 10 Toronto History Museums for free and also join for free guided tours.

Though general admission will be free going forward, some exhibitions and events may require additional fees.

The city says the decision ensures equitable access to museum sites and provides everyone with an opportunity to participate in cultural heritage and spaces.

In addition, from May to July, one can enjoy new performances and art installations created by artists from the 2021 Awakenings Artist Mentorship program under the guidance of Weyni Mengesha, Mentor and Artistic Director at Soulpepper Theatre Company. Free tickets are required for this event.

May is also when Toronto’s heritage treasures and museums are open to the public for free as part of Doors Open Toronto.

This year, Doors Open Toronto takes place on May 28th and 29th.

Those who have a Toronto Public Library card can get a MAP Pass and visit some of the famous Toronto attractions like ROM, AGO, Toronto Zoo for free.
