The company confirmed it will reopen stores beginning with a soft launch at Londonderry Mall in Edmonton on October 30, introducing what it calls Zellers 3.0, a smaller, modern department store concept designed for today’s shoppers.

Zellers’ return follows its earlier effort in 2023, when the company opened 25 pop-up “experiences” inside Hudson’s Bay stores across the country to test consumer interest and brand engagement.

The reimagined stores will range between 30,000 and 50,000 square feet, offering a curated selection of apparel, accessories, home goods, and seasonal merchandise.

Chief Operating Officer Joey Benitah said the goal is to revive a part of Canadian culture while adapting to consumer demand for a more intimate and accessible shopping experience.

Per the news release, the new model will operate through adaptive partnerships with landlords, allowing for quicker expansion into key markets. The company plans to announce additional store openings by Spring 2026 and aims to repurpose select former Hudson’s Bay spaces into smaller, efficient stores.

Initial product lines will include brands such as Reebok, Spyder, Canada Weather Gear, Chaps, DKNY kids outerwear, and children’s accessories from Nickelodeon, Marvel, and Disney. Footwear will be added in future phases.

A major part of the relaunch includes the return of Zeddy, the brand’s well-known bear mascot. A new family section called Zeddy’s World will allow customers to purchase and personalize Zeddy bears, with full production slated for 2026.

Zellers also announced plans to renew its charitable work, including developing a national partnership with pediatric oncology camps supporting children affected by cancer.

Founded in 1928, Zellers was acquired by Les Ailes de la Mode Inc. from Hudson’s Bay Company in August 2025.
