Delta Marsh
About 25 km north of Portage la Prairie, Delta Marsh is a beautiful fall destination for wildlife watching and peaceful walks. The marsh is an internationally significant wetland and an important stopover for migrating waterfowl and songbirds. Explore the 7.7 km Delta Marsh Wildlife Trail while taking in autumn scenery and watching for birds on their seasonal migration. Bring binoculars and a camera to make the most of this quiet fall escape.
Top of the World Trail
For sweeping fall views, hike the Top of the World Trail in Whiteshell Provincial Park. This 4 km trail climbs to one of the highest points in the area, rewarding hikers with spectacular views over Falcon Lake. Go Hiking at Birds Hill Park
Just 24 km northeast of Winnipeg, Birds Hill Provincial Park is an easy fall escape filled with forest, prairie and scenic trails. Walk the 3.5 km Cedar Bog Trail, climb the viewing tower along the 4 km Chickadee Trail, or choose the 6.5 km Aspen Trail for a longer outing. Oak and aspen forests take on warm autumn colours, while cooler temperatures make hiking especially enjoyable. Visit St. Andrew’s Rectory and Church
Fall is an ideal time for a scenic drive, especially when the route comes with a dose of Manitoba history. About 30 minutes north of downtown Winnipeg, the River Road Heritage Parkway follows the Red River past scenic viewpoints, interpretive stops and historic landmarks. Stop at St. Andrew’s Rectory National Historic Site, built in 1854, to explore its distinctive Red River architecture and learn about life in the 19th-century Red River Settlement. Just across the road, St. Andrew’s on the Red Anglican Church, built between 1845 and 1849, is the oldest stone church in Western Canada still in active parish use. With fall colour along the river and two remarkable heritage sites close together, it makes for an easy and scenic autumn day trip from Winnipeg.
Check Out a Corn Maze
Just south of Winnipeg, A Maze in Corn is a fun fall outing for families, couples, and groups of friends. Find your way through the corn maze, climb the giant bale pyramid and visit the petting zoo, all included with general admission. On weekends, you can add a hayride or pony ride, while October brings pumpkins and the Haunted Forest for extra seasonal fun.

Visit Deer Meadow Farms
Celebrate fall at Deer Meadow Farms, just minutes east of Winnipeg, where the season brings pumpkins, a corn maze and plenty of family-friendly farm activities. Pick out pumpkins to take home, meet farm animals or hop aboard the wagon train through the fallow deer preserve. For a spookier night out, visit Farmageddon, where the Forbidden Forest features elaborate sets, live actors and eerie scenes hidden throughout the woods. It is an easy fall outing whether you are looking for classic harvest fun or a Halloween thrill.
Zoom High above the skies
Take in Manitoba’s fall colours from a different perspective at Hy-Wire Zipline Adventures in the Pembina Valley. The family-run attraction offers five- and eight-cable tours, with ziplines reaching heights of about 200 feet above the valley. Some lines stretch as far as 1,500 feet, giving riders sweeping views of the surrounding forest and rolling landscape. In fall, the changing leaves make the experience especially scenic, and reservations are required for zipline tours.
Visit the Mennonite Heritage Village
Visit Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach to explore a recreated turn-of-the-century Russian Mennonite street village spread across 40 acres. Walk among historic buildings, see a traditional housebarn and visit the fully operational Dutch windmill while learning about Mennonite life and culture in Manitoba. Fall is a pleasant time to wander the grounds, but plan your outdoor visit before September 30, as the outdoor village buildings close from October through April. Check out Schwabe Pumpkins
Get into the Halloween spirit with a fall visit to Schwabe Pumpkins in St. Andrews, just north of Winnipeg. The farm grows more than 25 varieties of pumpkins, along with squash, gourds, sweet corn, cucumbers and tomatoes. Families can also enjoy seasonal activities and plenty of colourful photo opportunities among the pumpkins. Pumpkin picking for the 2026 season begins September 18, making it a fun stop for an autumn outing.
Get to Know Hecla/Grindstone Provincial Park
Hecla/Grindstone Provincial Park is a rewarding fall escape, with colourful forests, Lake Winnipeg views and several scenic hiking options. Try the West Quarry Trail or the short Wildlife Viewing Tower Trail, where you may spot moose and other wildlife. Hecla’s lighthouse is one of the island’s distinctive landmarks, adding to the park’s strong maritime character and creating a memorable backdrop for a fall visit. With cooler weather and autumn scenery, the park still offers plenty to explore on a quieter fall getaway.
See fall colours along Brokenhead’s peaceful trail
Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail is a beautiful place to visit for a fall day trip. The easy 2.6 km round-trip trail follows a wooden boardwalk through boreal forest, cedar swamp, and a rare calcareous fen. Visitors can enjoy the changing fall colors while looking for unique plants, including orchids and carnivorous species such as pitcher plants and sundews. Interpretive displays along the trail share information about the wetland’s ecology and its Indigenous importance. The trail is also wheelchair accessible, making it suitable for many visitors.
Learn about History at the Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site
About 30 minutes north of Winnipeg, Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site offers history alongside beautiful fall scenery. Wander the historic grounds beside the Red River and discover stories connected to the Hudson’s Bay Company, First Nations, Red River Métis, and the signing of Treaty No. 1. The grounds can be explored beyond the main summer season, but historic buildings, the Visitor Centre, and regular interpretive programming operate seasonally, so check availability before visiting in fall. Visit the Pinawa Dam
For a scenic fall day trip, head to Pinawa Dam Provincial Park, about 1.5 hours from Winnipeg. The ruins of Manitoba’s first year-round hydroelectric generating station are surrounded by granite, rushing water and colourful forest, creating an especially striking setting for autumn photography. Follow the Dam Ruins Walk, a self-guided trail that takes about an hour and features interpretive signs explaining the site’s history. Head to Aurora Farm in St. Norbert for a relaxed fall outing just south of Winnipeg. For fall, the railway offers Halloween experiences, including family-friendly adventures and after-dark Train of Terror rides on select October dates. Enjoy fall colours and trails at Beaudry Provincial Park
Beaudry Provincial Park is a beautiful fall destination just west of Winnipeg, with colourful forest and prairie scenery. The Elm Trail remains open and offers a peaceful walk through the river-bottom forest near the Assiniboine River. The Prairie Loop is also open, providing views of restored tall-grass prairie and seasonal fall colours. The park also hosts the Beaudry Fall Classic, a timed-loop trail race taking place annually in October with race loops of about 5.1 km through forested areas of the park. Visitors can enjoy walking, wildlife watching, photography, and picnicking while taking in the autumn landscape.
