Ontario is expanding the eligibility for a 3rd dose or booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for all 18+ residents beginning this Monday, December 20th.
All eligible Ontarians can book appointments at least 3 months after completion of a primary COVID-19 vaccine series.
Additionally, pharmacies and other channels may provide boosters for 18 and over at the three-month interval starting Friday, December 17, 2021 for walk-ins.
In addition, starting today, individuals aged 50 and over as well as all those currently eligible who have already booked their appointment at an interval of six months (168 days) can call the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre to re-book for an earlier date at the three-month interval and can change their appointment through Ontario’s booking portal starting on Monday.
The province on December 10th had announced that booster doses bookings will only start in the new year. The change comes as the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, is circulating in communities across Ontario.
1,808 new COVID-19 cases were reported today with Omicron projected to become the dominant strain in the province within a short time.
As we combat the spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant, nothing matters more than getting these booster doses into people’s arms” said Premier Doug Ford in a news release. “I am issuing a call to arms. We need every member of Team Ontario to stand tall and do their part as we work to protect our hard-fought progress and keep Ontarians safe.”
The province has administered a third or booster dose to 1,322,001 residents.
The province is also bringing back some indoor capacity limits effective December 18, 2021, at 12:01 a.m.
How to book an appointment:
Starting on December 20, 2022 at 8:00 a.m., individuals aged 18 and over will be eligible to schedule their booster dose appointment through:
- COVID-19 vaccination portal
- Calling the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre
- Through Indigenous-led vaccination clinics
- Select pharmacies
- Primary care settings.
Appointments will be booked for approximately three months (84 days) after a second dose.
