April 17: Watch ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ This Weekend

Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals has been streaming every Friday at 2 PM Eastern on youtube as part of ‘The Show Must Go On.’ The Show Must Go On has already aired Webber’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “Jesus Christ Superstar”.

 

The next musical in line to be streamed is the much awaited ‘The Phantom of the Opera’. The broadcast is a 25th-anniversary special show recorded at the Royal Albert Hall in 2011 and stars Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom and Sierra Boggess as Christine.

The Phantom of the Opera is based on the classic novel Le Fantôme de L’Opéra by Gaston Leroux. It tells the story of a masked figure that lurks underneath the Paris Opera House and terrorizes the inhabitants. He falls madly in love with Christine, a beautiful young soprano. The rest of the story follows his devious attempts to make her into a star and win her.

 

Since the time The Phantom of the Opera was first opened in 1986, it has been made into dozens of productions worldwide and won over 70 major theatre awards.
