Coronavirus: What is Open & Closed in Calgary

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced a three-step reopening plan starting June 1, 2021.

Alberta will enter stage 2 on June 10th.

 

Here are restrictions and what is open closed in Calgary:

Masks

  • Masks are mandatory for all indoor workplaces.
  • Masks are mandatory on public transit, public vehicles (for-hire) and in all public indoor spaces.

Gathering Limits

  • Indoor social gatherings prohibited.
  • Outdoor social gatherings increase to 20 people, with distancing.
  • Wedding ceremonies may occur with up to 20 attendees. Receptions are permitted outdoors only.
  • Funeral ceremonies with up to 20 people permitted, not including facility staff, funeral clergy or organizers not considered guests. Receptions are permitted outdoors only.
  • Capacity for places of worship increases to one-third of fire code occupancy.
  • Outdoor fixed seating facilities (e.g., grandstands) can open with one-third seated capacity.
  • Public outdoor gatherings increase to 150 people (e.g. concerts/festivals), with restrictions.
  • Spectators can attend indoor and outdoor physical activities and performances:
    • 1/3 venue capacity for indoor activities (arenas, theatres) and for outdoor fixed-seated (grandstand) events
    • 150 people maximum for non-fixed seated events (this limit includes spectators, athletes/performers, production teams, referees and coaches)
    • 2 metres of physical distancing must be maintained at all times

WHAT ARE OPEN WITH RESTRICTIONS

  • Restaurants – 6 people per table max, indoors or outdoors
  • Gyms and fitness studios – open for solo and drop-in activities and indoor fitness classes with 3 metre distancing
  • Indoor recreation, entertainment and other settings (rec centres, arenas, casinos, cinemas, theatres, museums, galleries, libraries, etc.) – open at 1/3 of fire code occupancy
  • Personal and wellness services – resume walk-in service
  • Retail – 1/3 of fire code occupancy (must maintain ability to distance)
  • Youth activities (day camps, overnight camps, play centres) – resume with restrictions
  • Youth and adult sports – resume with no restrictions, indoors and outdoors
  • Indoor performance activities are permitted, including: dancing, singing, acting or playing a musical instrument
    rehearsals or theatrical performances
  • Dinner theatres are permitted at 1/3 capacity.

  • Calgary Zoo – Open
  • Telus Spark – Opening June 18th
  • Glenbow Museum – June 19th (Free Admission – June 19-26, 2021 – Get tickets)
  • Heritage Park – Open
  • Contemporary Calgary – TBA
  • Studio Bell/National Music Centre – Opening July 1, 2021 (Free admission on Canada Day and every weekend through July 25. – Get tickets)
  • Lougheed House – TBA
  • Calgary Tower – Opening June 11th
  • Fort Calgary – TBA
  • The Military Museums – Opens June 11th
  • The Hangar Flight Museum  – Opens June 11th.

City of Calgary Services:

  • Calgary Public Library – On Monday, June 14, all locations will open for in-locations services at regular hours except Rocky Ridge Library and Signal Hill Library.

On June 14, the following facilities will re-open:

  • Aquatic and fitness facilities:
    • Canyon Meadows Aquatic & Fitness Centre
    • Glenmore Aquatic Centre
    • Inglewood Aquatic Centre
    • Killarney Aquatic & Recreation Centre
    • Sir Winston Churchill Aquatic & Recreation Centre
    • Thornhill Aquatic & Recreation Centre

Two additional aquatic and fitness facilities will follow on June 21:

    • Bob Bahan Aquatic & Fitness Centre
    • Renfrew Aquatic & Recreation Centre
  • Arenas:
    • Father David Bauer and Norma Bush arenas (two ice sheets)
    • Optimist & George Blundun arenas (two dry pads)
    • Shouldice (one dry pad)
    • Stew Hendry & Henry Viney arenas (two ice sheets)
    • Southland Leisure Centre (two ice sheets)
  • Athletic Parks:
    • Tom Brook Athletic Park
    • Renfrew Athletic Park.
    • Foothills Athletic Park (Open as of June 1)
    • Glenmore Athletic Park (Open as of June 1)
    • New Brighton Athletic Park (Open as of June 1)
    • Optimist Athletic Park (Open as of June 1)
    • Shouldice Athletic Park (Open as of June 1)
  • Calgary Soccer Centre (eight indoor and three outdoor artificial turf fields)
  • Glenmore Sailing School (for sailboat, canoes & kayak rentals)

On June 19 (weather dependent) The City will also re-open seven outdoor spray parks and wading pools with limited capacity in alignment with stage 2 of the Province’s “Open for Summer” plan:

  • Five Spray Parks:
    • West Confederation Park
    • Prairie Winds Park
    • Rotary Park
    • South Glenmore Park (Variety Park)
    • Valleyview Park
  • Two Wading Pools:
    • Bowness Park
    • Prairie Winds Park

Additional facilities will re-open in a phased approach, based on a number of factors including hiring and certifying staff and customer use.

Registered Programs, lessons and day camps are now available for sessions starting as soon as July 3. You can see available programs – many of which are child-friendly and outdoor – at www.calgary.ca/register.

 

What is not allowed/What is closed:

  • Close the Mall too!!! Everyone is gathering in the mall. Malls are the number one place where people go and gather.

  • I am already at 39 days since vaccine. Tues will be state of 8th weeks and Pfizer recommended 21-28 days.
    I am 73 and do not have any expectations that my life means a damn thing to anyone.

  • The consequences of the over reactions to COVID is now being felt. IMO by practising common sense we could easily stop the spread.
