Events Description
The annual Alberta Star Party. Get together with other astronomers at a camping event where you can enjoy speakers during the day and the sky during the night.
The Alberta Star Party is open to everyone – not just RASC members. We invite you and your family to attend. The Annual Alberta Star Party is hosted by the Calgary Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and we feel that you will be impressed by the dark and transparent skies.
Cover all of your white lights, e.g. flashlights, headlights, interior trailer lights, etc. with red cellophane or the equivalent; or leave them off.
Astronomy Talks
Learn about the Universe from our guest speakers brought to you by RASC Calgary Centre:
- Guest speaker, Judy Sterner, presents “Star Party Travels & the History of the Alberta Star Party”
- Our keynote, Nic David Lecture speaker this year, is Pranvera Hyseni of University of California, Santa Cruz presenting “[TBD]” (remotely via Zoom)
- Guest Speaker Garnet Tozer of RASC Calgary Centre presents “Tech Talk” on DwarfLab Smart Telescopes
- Everyone’s favourite Sky Tour presented by Jason Nishiyama
HOW MUCH
Tickets:
- Early bird pricing: single $25, family $35 until August 23, 2026
- Standard pricing: single $30; family $40 until September 7, 2026
- Onsite pricing: single $35, family $45
A $45/night camping fee will be collected by A Stones Throw RV Campground
The camping fee is not included as part of the ASP Registration.

- Night: Personal Observing and ASP Scavenger Hunt
Saturday, September 12
- 10:00-12:00: A Stones Throw RV Campground Farmers’ Market
- 10:30-12:00: Registration and Promotional Items for sale
- 13:00-14:30: Registration & Swap Table
- 14:45-17:00: Speakers. After Speakers: Door prizes! To claim a prize you must present your ticket at the draw.
- 18:30-20:00: Late registration
- 20:00-21:00: “Sky Tonight” with Steve Donaldson (also open to seasonal campers)
- 21:00-22:00: Sky Tour by Jason Nishyama (or Roland Dechesne will give a talk on “Cooking Up the Solar System from Scratch: A One Star Recipe” if weather isn’t cooperating
- Night: Personal Observing and ASP Scavenger Hunt
