The City of Calgary has announced that the much-awaited Canada Day 2023 aerial fireworks display will be launched from the historic Stampede Park.
The exact timings and further details about fireworks will be revealed as the event nears.
The city had previously decided to cancel the fireworks to take into account cultural sensitivities but walked back on that decision due to public feedback.
While Stampede Park will be the hub for the pyrotechnic extravaganza, onsite viewing won’t be available due to the ongoing preparations for the 2023 Stampede. Calgarians can watch fireworks from various viewing spots and there will be numerous other vibrant spots to enjoy the day’s festivities in a manner most resonant to them.
The city has planned an enriching blend of inclusive and educational programming on the anvil for Canada Day. You can also look forward to an immersive light and sound spectacle at Fort Calgary, launched during the headline act of the day.
The main events of the day will span across four key locations – Fort Calgary, St. Patrick’s Island, Olympic Plaza, and the Municipal Building. Each site will offer unique experiences with culture, art, music, and food.
Fort Calgary promises a cultural feast featuring an Indigenous showcase, powwow, an all-Canadian musical lineup on the main stage, and an Artisan Market. Hourly walking tours and food trucks will add to the mix.
Meanwhile, St. Patrick’s Island will be the hub of family-friendly fun with three stages featuring diverse art and music performances, face painting and airbrush tattoos, stilt walkers, and craft tents. The island will also offer idyllic picnic spots and playgrounds.
The Olympic Plaza and Municipal Building will host an ArtsXpeditions event, a variety of local music performances, children’s art activities, and showcases of Indigenous culture through dance, poetry, and musical performances.
2023 programming details will be available on the city website.
