The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has intercepted 228 kilograms of illegal narcotics at the Coutts port of entry in Alberta in two separate incidents.
The seizures included 186 kg of methamphetamine and 42 kg of cocaine, both concealed in commercial trucks attempting to enter Canada.
The first seizure occurred on December 24, 2024, when officers inspected a truck bound for Calgary and discovered methamphetamine hidden within the cargo. The estimated street value of the drugs is $1.86 million CAD.
The second incident took place on January 18, 2025, when officers directed another Calgary-bound truck for further inspection. A search revealed two boxes containing bricks of cocaine, totalling 42 kg and valued at over $1 million CAD.
In both cases, CBSA officers arrested the drivers, who were later transferred to Alberta RCMP custody. Investigations are ongoing.
In 2024, CBSA officers in Alberta seized approximately 1,300 kg of narcotics, including 205 kg of cocaine. The agency warns that smuggling drugs can lead to criminal prosecution, deportation, and bans on re-entry into Canada.
The CBSA urges the public to report suspicious cross-border activity by calling 1-888-502-9060. Anyone with knowledge of criminal activity can contact local police, RCMP (1-800-387-0020), or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-TIPS).
