Events Description
Heritage Calgary celebrates the people and projects keeping Calgary’s history alive at this year’s ceremony at the Fairmont Palliser, itself one of downtown’s great historic landmarks. A community jury has chosen winners in Resource Conservation, Cultural Landscape, Heritage Storytelling, Advocacy and Volunteerism, Heritage Trades and Crafts, and a new Heritage Guideline Area category. A Lifetime Achievement Award will also be presented.
The evening ends with something new: a live auction of an original commissioned artwork by Calgary artist Lauren Shipton. It depicts the Hudson’s Bay Company Department Store on Stephen Avenue. The store opened in 1913, and its cream terra cotta façade and granite colonnade have anchored downtown for more than a century. The auction’s beneficiary will be revealed live on the night.
