Events Description

Share your meaningful ideas about history, Indigenous experiences and colonial power as part of The Confluence Symposium commemorating 150 years since the North-West Mounted Police first arrived to the land we now call Calgary and established Fort Calgary in 1875.
In the spirit of truth and reconciliation, this commemoration is not a celebration of early Calgary’s history, but an inclusive and critical reflection on the legacy of Fort Calgary and colonialism. Symposium topics will be rooted in the complex histories of the land at The Confluence. The event is meant to bring community together to broaden our collective understanding of the past and inspire active consideration for our present and future.
Presented in partnership by The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland and The University of Calgary.
This event is being offered as part of an event series The Confluence is hosting to commemorate 150 years since the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) first arrived at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow Rivers and established Fort Calgary in 1875. The Confluence is taking a reflective approach in sharing the stories that make the site so significant. Find the full event line-up at theconfluence.ca/150
