Events Description
The Tenor saxophone has long been the quintessential symbol of jazz and the most important solo voice in the big band setting. Come hear the compositions of some of jazz history’s most important tenor saxophone players including Joe Henderson, Michael Brecker, Stn Getz, John Coltrane, Lester Young, Ben Webster, and more as well as some of Edmonton’s best tenor saxophone players! (And maybe a few special guests as well….)
The Don Berner Big Band is the city of Edmonton’s flagship large jazz ensemble. An Edmonton jazz favourite for over a decade, the Don Berner Big Band became the first professional large jazz ensemble in Edmonton to have a fully programmed concert season in 2021. Featuring Edmonton’s best jazz musicians, the Don Berner Big Band presents an eclectic season drawing from classic big band and swing repertoire, collaborations with contemporary and pop artists, adaptations of works from other mediums, and more with a variety of special illustrious guests, all presented in Edmonton Public Library’s Muttart Theatre in Downtown Edmonton!
