MATEN

Embark on a musical journey with the Innu band MATEN in a fusion of folk, rock, and alternative music. This concert highlights Innu communities through strong, committed lyrics and vibrant rhythms.

Made up of three artists, Samuel Pinette, Mathieu Mckenzie, and Kim Fontaine, Maten is an Innu band from Mani-utenam on Quebec’s North Shore, anchored between the shores of the St. Lawrence and the boreal forest.

One of Maten’s main characteristics is the commitment in their lyrics to their community, their language, and their Innu roots. The lyrics convey their values and culture, and their pride in their identity, while the lyrics are strong and direct, looking to the future but also very realistic and dealing with the difficulties that communities still have to face.
