Rascalz are a pioneering Canadian hip-hop group from Vancouver, formed in 1989. The core trio—MCs Red1 and Misfit alongside producer/DJ Kemo—were later joined by breakdancers Zebroc and Dedos. They debuted with Really Livin’ (1992/1993), earning Juno nominations for Best Rap Recording. Their 1997 album Cash Crop (label: BMG Canada/Figure IV) went gold and won the 1998 Juno, which they declined to protest its televised omission. In 1998, their anthem “Northern Touch,” featuring Checkmate, Kardinal Offishall, Thrust, and Choclair, became a defining moment in Canadian hip-hop and won the 1999 Juno award. Later albums include Global Warning (1999) and Reloaded (2002). Though they’ve retired from new recordings, the group continues to perform occasionally.
