Events Description
A true icon of classical music, Janina Fialkowska returns to her native Canada in 2026 as part of her celebratory 75th anniversary tour. For this special occasion, she will once again grace the stage of the Hamilton Conservatory of the Arts.
For nearly five decades, Fialkowska has captivated audiences and critics worldwide with her musical integrity, natural style, and unmistakable piano sound—earning her the title “one of the Grandes Dames of piano playing” (Frankfurter Allgemeine).
Her career was launched in 1974 when legendary pianist Arthur Rubinstein, impressed by her prize-winning performance at his inaugural Master Piano Competition, called her a “born Chopin interpreter.” That moment marked the beginning of her enduring connection to Chopin’s music.
Over the years, she has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras under the direction of such maestros as Zubin Mehta, Bernard Haitink, Lorin Maazel, Sir Georg Solti, Sir Roger Norrington, as well as a younger generation of conductors such as Klaus Mäkelä and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. She is also a frequent juror at top-tier piano competitions, including the Rubinstein, Liszt, and Honens competitions, and has chaired several international juries.
