Events Description

Still Me is a free community workshop focused on supporting 2SLGBTQ+ Individuals navigating care settings in later life; presented by Home Hospice Association.

As people move into long term care, retirement living, hospitals, or other care environments, some 2SLGBTQ+ individuals feel pressure to hide or minimize important parts of their identity in order to feel safe, accepted, or respected. This experience, often referred to as re-closeting, can have significant impacts on well being, dignity, and quality of life.

This workshop is designed for family members (biological or chosen), friends, front line workers, caregivers, and informal support persons who want to better understand how they can advocate for the identity, safety, and dignity of someone they care about. Community members of course are always welcome!

Participants will learn:

• What re-closeting is and why it occurs
• How to recognize signs that someone may be withdrawing or concealing their identity
• Practical advocacy strategies for communicating with care providers and organizations
• Ways to create safer, more affirming care experiences across a variety of settings
• Tools and resources that support planning, inclusion, and belonging

We would be grateful for your attendance and support as we continue working toward more inclusive, affirming, and compassionate communities for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. Registration can be completed on the Home Hospice Association website.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Smith’s Funeral Home for hosting this event and to the Martin Foundation for its generous support.
