Events Description
On Thursday October 19, Royal LePage Shelter Foundation will host five Night Light Walks across Canada — in Halifax, Belleville, Victoria, Pickering, and Burlington — to raise awareness around domestic violence and show support for women and children who are rebuilding their lives after experiencing Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).
Recently according to CBC.ca over 40 municipalities across the country, including Toronto, Hamilton and Burlington, have declared Intimate Partner Violence, domestic violence and/or gender-based violence to be epidemics in their respective communities*.
Royal LePage Shelter Foundation aims to help those impacted by IPV by giving 100 per cent of funds raised at the Night Light Walk to local women’s shelters in those five cities. All participants will walk a lantern-lit three-kilometre route through the streets of their community with a lantern or LED lights provided by organizers, to show victims that they are not alone.
