Events Description
In 2020, while she was in the Northwest Territories, Franco-Manitoban theatre artist Marie-Ève Fontaine learned of the existence of the Giant Mine, an abandoned gold mine whose operation led to a potential ecological disaster. Driven by her eco-anxiety, she launched a vast investigation that would take her from Yellowknife to Rouyn-Noranda by way of Fort McMurray and Sudbury, as she sought better to understand the history of these contaminated sites and to question our collective, individual and industrial relationship with the land.
Fontaine joined forces with Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario, rooted in the mining town of Sudbury, to develop this ambitious project—part documentary theatre, part installation and part cultural mediation—that invites us to connect with the land.
