Events Description
The group Kozé was formed by lovers of maloya who wanted to introduce this form of music to audiences in Quebec and, more broadly, in Canada. Kozé means “to speak, to communicate” in Réunion Creole, and it is through its lyrics and songs that the group conveys its message and values. Maloya is protest music that combines percussion and singing, a beautiful way for its choral voices to resonate with drums and other native Réunion Island instruments. Experience Kozé’s maloya, a gentle blend of traditional and modern, a trance-like and profound style that invites both dancing and excitement.
The show explores identity, inclusivity, and humanism, reflecting the diversity that defines Réunion culture. Kozé’s rhythms and harmonies constitute a universal language through which all peoples and ethnic groups can come together to form a unified whole.
In 2025, Kozé’s memorable performance at the Syli d’Or world music awards in Montréal earned the group third place and the Syli de Bronze. Thanks to the event’s high profile, Kozé won the hearts of the presenters in attendance, who then offered them a spot in their programs, including the Jardins Gamelins and the 39th edition of the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique for a performance at Montréal’s Place des Festivals.
