Events Description
A teenager accused of serious offences is required to meet with a social worker to explain his actions. But what really happened? The young man ducks, weaves, and dodges every question with disturbing skill. How could this quiet, studious boy have changed so dramatically?
He’s holding something back. We sense that he is loyal, deeply attached to a key figure in his life: his mother. He’s protective; he’s not talking. But how far can you go for the sake of family loyalty before you lose yourself? When does sacrifice become self-betrayal?
In language that’s at once crude, humorous and luminous, Le Taureau vividly portrays the conflict between wanting to forge your own path and remaining loyal to your loved ones. The result of a collaboration between playwright Marc-André Charrette and Théâtre Catapulte, the play draws on Charrette’s experience as a social worker to construct a heart-wrenching dilemma whose nuances go far beyond a simple choice. Written with teenagers in mind, Le Taureau is suitable for all audiences.
