Events Description

Discover your Celtic roots at Ottawa’s most unique cultural celebration! The annual North American Festival of Wales (Aug. 27-31), hosted by the Welsh North American Association, brings authentic Welsh culture to Ottawa with four days of music, food, and tradition.

Highlights include the free WelshFest street festival on Sparks Street (Thursday 4-7pm) featuring Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists Welsh of the West End, Welsh female folkd group Pedair, traditional clog dancing, and Welsh comedian Tudur Owen.

Additional events include Taste of Wales at the Delta Hotel (Wednesday 6:30-8 pm), a Welsh Male Voice Choir performance at Christ Church Cathedral (Saturday 7pm), and a Community Hymn Sing (Sunday 2pm).

With nearly 500,000 Canadians claiming Welsh ancestry, this festival offers genealogy stations, traditional Welsh food, arts and crafts, face painting, and the chance to experience the culture that gave the world Tom Jones and some truly challenging consonant combinations. Many events are free; some require tickets available at the door.
