Events Description
Over the course of a year, 12 playwrights—1 per month—from Vancouver to Caraquet were chosen by 12 theatre companies to join a writing relay with mysterious rules, the main one being to write about and during the night. This show presents a collage of these writers’ nocturnal endeavours, compiled into one thrilling theatrical happening to celebrate the dreamers we are.
When the sun goes down, what keeps us up? The roaring engines of modified cars, perhaps, or a loved one’s snores? Or a sleepless fascination with vampire stories, or the fear, born out of the deepest, darkest parts of winter, of never seeing daylight again? And yet, from west to east, Canadian nights are one: they are peaceful, terrible, mythical ghostly spaces where creative thoughts drift unencumbered. In the end, maybe the night belongs to those who write it?
In any event, Danielle Le Saux-Farmer and Gabriel Plante certainly pulled an all-nighter all year! The duo was at the helm of this ambitious adventure bringing together a diverse group of 12 playwrights from far and wide, like so many stars twinkling in the sky we all share.
