Events Description
Get a Rare Look Inside a Chicken Sanctuary at Secondhand Stories’ Open House
On Saturday, August 30, 2025, Secondhand Stories will host its 2nd Annual Open House, welcoming the public to the sanctuary grounds. This event invites families to meet our flock and to learn about our work, explore humane education, and enjoy hands-on workshops and activities designed to spark compassion for farmed animals. Their first open house, last summer, welcomed over 250 attendees and sold out.
“There’s nothing more heartwarming than seeing a rescued hen take a dust bath in the sunshine or chirp with happiness at a slice of cool watermelon. We’re excited to open our doors to the public and share these moments that show every chicken deserves joy, freedom, and a place to truly flourish.”
~ Liz Wheeler, Co-Founder
Highlights of the event include:
● Hourly guided tours
● Vegan-friendly vendor marketplace
● Dreamcatcher Workshop hosted by Bougie Birch using naturally dropped feathers from the
sanctuary residents
● Children’s story time with the chickens
