Pianist Yeol Eum Son – whose popularity in Korea rivals that of K-pop stars – makes her NACO debut performing the Mount Everest of music for piano and orchestra.
Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird ballet has all the elements of your favourite fairy tales: enchanted gardens, brave heroes, ghoulish goblins, and good triumphing over evil. The orchestral suite Stravinsky extracted from his shimmering score journeys through six of the ballet’s most mesmerizing scenes with music of spine-tingling suspense and radiant joy.
And to open the program, Portuguese conductor Joana Carneiro introduces us to Andreia Pinto Correia’s Ciprés – a musical depiction of towering trees and calm water inspired by a Federico García Lorca poem.
