Events Description
Welcome to hear the beautiful Stabat Mater by Giovanni Pergolesi, performed by organist Renee deMoissac and vocalists Elaine Thaler and Kathleen Brannen. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience this classic work performed live by accomplished musicians.
From Wikipedia: “The Stabat Mater is a 13th-century Christian hymn to the Virgin Mary that portrays her suffering as mother during the crucifixion of her son Jesus Christ. The title comes from its first line, “Stabat Mater dolorosa”, which means “the sorrowful mother was standing”.”
This is part of the Music for Lent series from the Royal Canadian College of Organists Saskatoon Centre, and will also feature organists Haillie Smith and Janna Ylioja playing other Baroque organ works.
