Events Description
Join us for a weekend of musical instruction and camaraderie at the very first Saskatoon Bluegrass Jam Camp, a special fundraiser hosted by the Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Time Music Society. This exciting event, taking place on November 11th and 12th, 2023, at The Saskatoon Academy of Music, offers a unique opportunity for music enthusiasts of all levels to come together, learn, and jam while supporting a great cause.
How Jam Camp Works
Our camp is designed to offer you a unique and immersive experience in the world of bluegrass and old-time music. Here’s how it all works:
1. Choose Your Classes
We offer a tantalizing “bluegrass menu” of five different classes, catering to a range of skill levels and interests. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or looking to fine-tune your skills, there’s a class for you.
2. Customize Your Weekend
Tailor your Jam Camp experience by selecting the classes that resonate with you the most. Each class runs for one hour, and over the course of the weekend, you’ll attend 4 classes you choose.
3. Skill-Level Groups
To ensure you get the most out of your classes, we divide students into skill-level groups. Whether you’re a novice, an intermediate player, or an advanced musician, you’ll be placed in a group that matches your abilities.
4. Special Interest Workshops
Dive deeper into the nuances of bluegrass and old-time music through our special interest workshops. Led by expert instructors, these sessions cover a variety of topics.
5. Jamming Sessions
Jamming is at the heart of bluegrass and old-time music. Join facilitated bluegrass, old-time, and slow jams throughout the weekend. These sessions provide the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow musicians, put your news skills to work and create unforgettable musical moments.
6. Fundraiser Night
On the evening of Saturday November 11th, we invite you to our Old Time Dance Fundraiser at the All Saints’ Anglican Church. This lively event is the highlight of the weekend and a chance to let loose on the dance floor. Enjoy live music, bid on exciting items in our silent auction, savor your favorite beverages at the bar, and try your luck with our thrilling 50/50 draws. Your participation directly supports the Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Time Music Society, ensuring that we can continue sharing the joy of music throughout the year.
7. Make a Difference
These events are not just about music; they are a vital source of funding for our society. Your generous donations and participation in the fundraiser go a long way in helping us sustain our mission of preserving and promoting bluegrass and old-time music in our community.
