Events Description
What is SCAR?
“Saskatoon Cache and Release” SCAR is Saskatoon’s legendary 24-hour geocaching “marathon.” It’s a high-energy, city-wide (and rural!) treasure hunt where the community comes together to hide hundreds of new caches, and then spends 24 hours trying to find as many as humanly possible. Whether you are a “numbers” cacher chasing 100 finds or a family looking for a Saturday afternoon adventure, SCAR has something for everyone.
This event using satellite GPS technology. This 2 day marathon event;
1. Motivates Action: We are calling on Saskatonians to become the hiders. From now until May 16, viewers can hide their own “treasures” to be found during the event.
2.It’s a “Feel-Good” Health Story: It gets families walking, hiking, and exploring the beauty of our province. It’s fitness disguised as a game.
3. It’s Local Pride: SCAR draws participants from across the prairies into Saskatoon, boosting local spirit and showcasing our “Prairie Style” hospitality.

1. The Hides (Now until May 16) A great SCAR event depends on great hides! We challenge every participant to hide at least one new, permanent geocache.
Deadline: Submit your hides by Midnight, Saturday, May 16th.
Naming: Include “SCAR2026” at the end of your cache title (e.g., Bridge City View – SCAR2026).
The Reveal: All SCAR caches will be published simultaneously on Thursday evening, May 21st, giving you 24 hours to strategically plan your route.
2. The 24-Hour Hunt (May 22, 5:30 PM – May 23, 5:30 PM) At exactly 5:30 PM on Friday, the caches become “fair game.”
The Strategy: Race for the “First to Find” (FTF) or take a leisurely pace through the countryside around Saskatoon, and all the way through the Saskatoon neighbourhoods.
Note to Muggles (non-geocachers): If you see people with flashlights and smartphones peering under park benches at 3:00 AM—don’t worry! It’s just a geocacher on the hunt. We’ve alerted local authorities to ensure our “treasure hunters” stay safe.
3. The Gathering (Saturday, May 23 @ 6:00 PM) After the 24-hour clock runs out, we head out for a wrap-up BBQ and awards ceremony.
Food: SAGA provides the burgers, dogs, and drinks! Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.
Prizes: We’ll be awarding prizes for Most Finds, Most Hides, Most FTFs, and the coveted “Most Ticks Found” award!
Sustainability: Please bring your own reusable plate, cup, and lawn chair to help us keep the event eco-friendly.
