Events Description

Join us for a compelling screening of “Charlotte’s Castle,” a documentary produced in partnership with TVO Canada and Cave 7 Productions. This film explores the struggle of Toronto renters as they confront the threat of displacement from foreign-owned developers.

Squeezed by skyrocketing real estate prices, the residents of Spadina Gardens—a historic upscale rental building—band together to fight for their homes. Through personal stories and on-the-ground footage, “Charlotte’s Castle” highlights the harsh realities of renovations and the resilience of those determined to protect their community and maintain affordable housing.

A Panel Discussion will follow after the documentary with:
MODERATOR: Nam Kiwanuka (Host, TVO’s Agenda in the Summer)
PANEL MEMBER: David Reycraft (Senior Director – Programs and Services, Eva’s Initiatives)
PANEL MEMBER: Tim Maxwell (Community Legal Worker – Community Initiatives and Communications, Kensington-Bellwoods Community Legal Clinic)
PANEL MEMBER: Flynn Daunt (Community Organizer, Keele Area Tenant Committee)
