Events Description

Taglialatella Gallery Toronto is pleased to announce a new solo exhibition from Canadian artist Chloe Chlumecky as well as officially welcoming her to its artist roster.

Chlumecky’s work explores the richness of small, often overlooked moments in city life, capturing the essence of everyday experiences through realistic paintings. Her art invites viewers to slow down and appreciate the beauty in the mundane, depicting ordinary objects and scenes imbued with personal significance. With rough brushstrokes and a masterful use of light and shadow, Chlumecky reflects on urban isolation and introspection, encouraging viewers to find meaning in the seemingly ordinary.

A recurring theme in her work is modern solitude, often represented through hidden self-portraits of a girl taking a selfie, capturing moments of reflection amidst city life. In paintings like Foggy Morning in Orquevaux and Reflection With Yellow Vase, she depicts herself engaged with her phone, symbolizing the disconnection from the surrounding scene. This motif highlights the sense of being alone yet connected through technology. Chlumecky’s art has been recognized across Canada and the U.S., supported by multiple grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council.
