Events Description
CityPlace and Fort York Business Improvement Area announces Community Canvas – a community paint activation at Canoe Landing Park held over three days from October 1-3.
In the days leading up to Nuit Blanche, award-winning multi-disciplinary creative Ben Johnston will be painting a new large-scale floor mural in the heart of CityPlace and Fort York. Community members, residents, and visitors are invited to take part in guided after-work paint sessions from Wednesday, October 1, to Friday, October 3, and add their own brushstrokes as this collaborative artwork comes to life.
On Friday evening, celebrate the completion of the mural with a community gathering featuring a DJ set by Gimmemar and drop-in salsa lessons from Salsa in the Heart 5:00 – 9:00 PM.
The complete mural will be officially unveiled during the Culture Fest celebration on Saturday, October 4, perfectly timed with the opening of Nuit Blanche. The mural will be directly across from Faisal Anwar’s A Place I Call Home, sponsored by CityPlace and Fort York BIA, which uses responsive technology to examine shifting ideas of belonging.
