Events Description
Experience meaningful ceremony, captivating performances, original artwork, and traditional food—we genuinely cannot wait to create another momentous and memorable Día de los Muertos Celebration with and alongside you. We invite 12year old children and seniors to enter Barns free of charge. Please note that, due to the event’s popularity, which we hope will continue unabated, we have again secured a legal-capacity venue, and access will be subject to the venue’s capacity.
This year’s programming includes the art exhibition Collective/Memory, presented in collaboration with Sur Gallery and curated by Tamara Toledo, running from October 9 to December 6. The exhibition is inspired by the roots of social justice activism and the theories of oppositional consciousness, highlighting artists whose collaborative practices build shared narratives of remembrance and resistance. On October 17, Cempoalxóchitl Teachings: From Seed to Altar will be hosted at The Stop Community Centre. This evening program will explore in support with Maizal the cultural, ecological, and spiritual importance of the marigold (Cempoalxóchitl), offering multiple perspectives on its role as the ancestral flower of the Day of the Dead.
Also on November 2 with Teatro para Vivos, presented by Casa Maíz Cultural Centre and Grupo Teatro Libre. This program features theatre and dance performances that reflect on life, death, and remembrance through movement, storytelling, and visual expression. Together, these events form a collective celebration of memory, creativity, and community.
