Events Description
Some of the world’s most beloved orchestral works began life as music for another instrument. Mussorgsky’s inventive piano suite Pictures at an Exhibition has inspired over thirty composers to make arrangements of the work for orchestra! One of the greatest pieces ever written for organ –
J.S. Bach’s Passacaglia and Fugue in c minor spurred Respighi to write his own thrilling version for orchestra. Other pieces in the program: Bartok’ Romanian Dances and Debussy’s Claire de Lune.Join the GTPO as we take a trip through great transcriptions – pieces which are dressed in the bright new colours of a full orchestra, our own “pictures at an exhibition”.
