Dive into the fragility and complexity of life underwater through a series of photographs by renowned wildlife photographer Prince Hussain Aga Khan.
Khan Park and Lower Level Gallery in the Aga Khan Museum, Technicolour Ocean takes visitors on a journey through some of the most biodiverse underwater places on the planet.
Since his childhood, Prince Hussain Aga Khan has been fascinated by the beauty and increasing fragility of ocean life. Through the art of wildlife photography, he has dedicated his life to raising awareness of underwater worlds that are breathtaking in their kaleidoscopic colours and diversity. They are now under imminent threat. In less than 30 years’ time, there will be more plastic than fish (by mass) in our oceans.
For this exhibition, Prince Hussain has collected photographs taken between 2011 and 2023 in Indonesian waters, some of the most biodiverse underwater places on the planet. Located in the Lower Level Gallery and the Aga Khan Park, Technicolour Ocean reflects his expeditions to Lembeh, Bunaken, Raja Ampat, West Papua, and Southeast Sulawesi. These photographs give us much to think about and reflect Prince Hussain’s commitment to encourage global efforts to conserve the world’s animal species and ecosystems.
Prince Hussain Aga Khan
Renowned wildlife photographer Prince Hussain Aga Khan developed a keen interest in conservation at a young age and began scuba diving at 14. He frequently travelled to the tropics and started taking photographs of fauna and flora on a trip to the Brazilian Amazon in 1996.
Through numerous exhibitions, publications and talks, Prince Hussain has created a global platform to raise awareness and inspire and educate audiences to protect the most threatened places and species on our planet.
Prince Hussain chairs the board of the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat, serves on the board of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, and is a member of the Aga Khan Development Network’s Environment and Climate Committee. He is a board member of Mission Blue and the Shark Conservation Fund, a member of the Jane Goodall Legacy Foundation’s Council for Hope, and an ambassador for the Natural History Museum, London.
Focused on Nature
Established by Prince Hussain in 2014, Focused on Nature (FON) supports global conservation efforts through financial contributions to the world’s leading conservation organizations and grassroots initiatives.
Prince Hussain’s passion for wildlife photography is at the heart of FON. His extensive photographic archive is utilized to communicate with diverse audiences and to raise awareness about the necessity and urgency of conserving fragile and threatened ecosystems around the world.
