Performances by the renowned Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra consisting of the Wind Orchestra, the Symphonic Winds, and the Concert Winds who recently won Gold at the 2023 MusicFest Nationals. This concert includes 3 pieces by acclaimed composer Omar Thomas (“Mother of a Revolution” and “Of Our New Day Begun”) as well as the Canadian premiere of “Caribana”. Says Thomas (who will be at the concert), “Caribana is my attempt to bring the Calypso and Soca music of Trinidad and Tobago to the large ensemble symphonic music stage. Driven by layers of rhythmic percussion (known as “the engine room”), Caribana seeks to recreate the carnival experience, immersing you in the pulsing chaos of the moment.”
