Events Description
Jewish Voices in Music presents Two Remain, a powerful contemporary opera by composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer, built from the real words and testimonies of Holocaust survivors.
About Event
The opera centers on two survivors, Krystyna Żywulska and Gad Beck, who are compelled to confront and relive their traumatic pasts as they reflect on loss, survival, and the responsibility of remembrance. Through music that is haunting, intimate, and deeply human, Two Remain transforms lived history into an urgent theatrical experience.
Rather than presenting history as distant or abstract, the opera brings audiences face to face with memory itself, carried through voice, music, and testimony. At a time when Holocaust denial and distortion are increasingly prevalent, Two Remain stands as an act of witness, insisting on empathy, truth, and the enduring power of storytelling through music.
