The 25th annual When Brothers Speak Spoken Word Concert will feature performances from Suli Breaks (UK), Canadian Poetry Slam Champion, Eddie Lartey (Hamilton), Nigel Birch (Toronto), Shawn William (Oakland), Scarborough Walk of Fame Inductee, Dwayne Morgan (Toronto), and Ontario Poet Laureate, Randell Adjei (Toronto). Since it’s inception in 1999, When Brothers Speak has become the largest and longest running annual showcase featuring Black men, sharing their life experiences through the art of spoken word. This is not the poetry we suffered through as students, so prepare to be taken on a roller coaster of emotions, through heartfelt stories, humour, and vulnerability. Each year, Black men from different places share the stage, to give a broader understanding of what it’s like to be Black in the world that we live in. As people, we grow the most by listening to each other’s lived experiences, and there’s no greater opportunity than listening When Brothers Speak.
