Events Description
Learn the fundamentals of cyanotype, a 19th-century camera-less photographic printing technique that produces blue monochrome prints. You’ll be guided through the basic steps of preparing, exposing, and developing cyanotype prints while working with your own photographs in this beginner-friendly workshop. Along with cyanotyping photographs, participants can also incorporate botanical elements such as flowers and leaves to create layered compositions and frame their images. No prior experience is required, and all materials will be provided. At the end of the workshop, participants leave with their completed cyanotype prints and an understanding of the cyanotype process.
Before the day of the workshop, participants will be invited to submit one or two personal photographs, which will be made into digital negatives suitable for printing. During the workshop, these images will be transformed into cyanotype prints using light-sensitive paper and UV exposure. For those who prefer not to share personal photographs, we will provide pre-prepared negatives featuring scenes from the Ambleside area, such as a photograph of the Ferry Building Gallery.
