Events Description

Embark on a journey of exploration and education at this family-friendly OPEN HOUSE presented by the Vancouver Maritime Museum and Afro Van Connect.

Engage in various activities such as listening to enchanting storytelling sessions, colouring crafts, helping out in the community garden, and enjoying a drumming ceremony.

Starting at 11am, visitors to the museum will be welcomed by the co-founder of Afro Van Connect Kor Kase, before Vancouver-based traditional drumming group Drum Soul treats people to a rhythmic drumming ceremony to start the day. Other activities include a children’s story time reading from Kor of Gizo-Gizo: A Tale from the Zongo Lagoon written by Emily Williamson, followed by colouring crafts related to the story.

Staff at the museum will also be showcasing the impacts of water pollution by running interactive workshops in the galleries. Guests will also have a chance to learn and interact with the Fare Farms Community Garden located outside the Vancouver Maritime Museum, with small giveaway items available for people completing the activity!

Dive into a day of enlightening discussions, interactive workshops, and community-driven solutions aimed at safeguarding our most precious resource: water.

Together, we’ll explore innovative ways to combat water pollution, share insights on sustainable living, and foster a deeper connection with our environment.
Whether you’re a curious child or an adult, this free event offers something for everyone to enjoy.
