Events Description
Some places never leave us. They return in a familiar melody, the scent of tea, a sound we haven’t heard in years.
A kettle comes to a boil. A low murmur rises to a whistle. Let it stretch into a note, then follow it somewhere unexpected: into an ancient legend from northeastern China, across a Canadian landscape, towards a distant flourish of Scottish bagpipe.
Steeped in Sound is an afternoon concert presented by Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble on Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden in Vancouver. Inspired by Chinese tea, the concert brings traditional Chinese instruments into conversation with Canadian folk influences and contemporary improvisation. Hosted by Ginalina, the concert features Jirong Huang, Sarah Yusha Tan, Zhongxi Wu, Xiaoqi Feng, Sijia Huang and Bruce Henczel, with erhu, guzheng, ruan, sheng, suona, keyboard, percussion and bagpipe. Green tea will be available for guests to help themselves.
