Events Description
For five nights, international improv takes over our stage with performers from England, the USA, and Aotearoa New Zealand joining members from our ensemble for an unpredictable week of comedy you can’t find anywhere else! See the best in improv comedy from around the globe – no passport required.
This year’s lineup features bold voices and wildly different styles: Michelle Impro from London, England; Dumb John from Chicago, USA; Teresa & Folusho from London, England; and …returning for elevensies, Second Breakfast from Aotearoa New Zealand!
And of course, The Improv Centre’s illustrious mainstage cast will act as good hosts and get in on the fun as well!
Opening night brings all teams together, followed by a 25-minute talkback with our international performers. Hear about their local comedy scenes, discover what inspires their comedy, and settle the question of whether audiences everywhere really do suggest the same things (our money’s still on surgeon).
For the rest of the festival, each show pairs two teams, merging distinct cultures, comedic instincts, and improv styles into brand new formats built that very moment. Expect surprising viewpoints, unconventional storytelling, and spontaneous humour shaped by the countries these artists call home.
During the week, each team also features in a spotlight showcase, leading the second half of the show in their signature style — so audiences can pick their favourite flavour of funny.
Come experience improv that’s travelled continents to reach you, right here at home – as our visiting artists bring THE HEAT to warm up your winter and fire up your imagination!
